Awareness Programs on Drug Addiction


Young adult age is the period of growth and accomplishment. In this time they try to become independent by experiencing different aspect of life. They try different new things and for that sometimes they might fall in different negative experience like drugs. Drug abuse is a serious public health problem that affects almost every community and family in some way. Each year drug abuse causes millions of serious illnesses or injuries across the world. Drug abuse also plays a role in many major social problems, such as violence, stress, child abuse etc. In Bangladesh it is a growing national concern. There are millions of drug-addicted people in Bangladesh and most of them are young, between the ages of 18 and 30. And they are from all strata of the society.

There are more six(6) million drug addicts in Bangladesh as per Depertment of Narcotics Control(DNC), the authority for narcotics control in Bangladesh. and the number is rising every day. The people in the community should be aware of the killer disease called addiction. We arrenged a daylong program on 26th march 2016 to celebrete the independence day by conducting an awareness program for the mass people in the local community about drug addiction. The program included flyer distribution and informal counseling on drug addiction for the suffering people & their family members.

AMAR Home's Public Relation team along with our professional counselors served at the daylong program. More than four thousand(4,000) flyers were distributed and thirty seven(37) informal counseling were conducted at the stall.




Campaign against Drug Abuse

There is no alternative to launching social movement, involving every conscious citizen, for saving the young generations from the aggression of drug abuse in building a drug free society. The objective of the drive and campaign is to create much awareness among all and to build drug free society to protect the people particularly the young generation from deadly aggression of drug addiction. Most of the drug abusers are young and mostly got influenced by friends of their institute or locals. One of the main objectives of the program is for the students to realize impact of drugs on health and avoid tendency of taking drugs.

2nd National Recovery Get-together

Department of Narcotics Control of Bangladesh along with the licensee treatment centers organised an annual get-together for recovering addicts at 11th Jun 2015. The motto was to aware the community that Drug Addiction is preventable & treatable. AMAR Home participated in this program with our successful recovering addicts who are clean for more than two(2) years .

State Minister for Home Affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal MP was present as the chief guest at the conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city. DNC Director General chaired the conference in which senior secretary of Home Ministry was present as the special guest.




International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

June 26 is the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1987, this day serves as a reminder of the goals agreed to by Member States of creating an international society free of drug abuse. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) selects themes for the International Day and launches campaigns to raise awareness about the global drug problem. Health is the ongoing theme of the world drug campaign. We mobilized through Dhaka, to make the day’s slogan reachable to work places like Motijheel, Shahbag, Mohakhali, Banani and also to public universities & colleges like DU, AUST, Shahin College etc. to mark 26 June! Because It is a unique occasion to take a stand against a problem that affects us all. We count on public support to make this pro-health campaign a success.

State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan was presentas the chief guest at the conference at the auditorium of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology in the city.DNC Director General Md. Atwar Rahman chaired the conference in which senior secretary of Home Ministry CQK Mustaq Ahmed was present as the special guest.


Team leader of Health System Strengthening Activities under US AID Alison P Bare and additional DG of DNC Md. Amir Hossain were also present on the occasion.
